Practice
The firm practice focuses in three areas of law:
Estate Planning - advising clients in planning distribution of assets at death and administration of their affairs during incapacity and following death. The documents typically include drafting Wills, Trusts, Powers of attorneys for health and finances, Living Wills, Trusts for Minors, IRA Management Trusts, and Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts. This planning involves an overall process of consulting with the client, his or her financial planner, CPA, or other advisor to meet the clients goals in the most feasible way. Often, we are asked to design plans that speed the distribution of assets to heirs, and reduce or eliminate Probate using Revocable Trusts. This planning also frequently includes current and future income tax planning for IRA and Qualified Retirement plan assets - deferral of income taxes being the typical objective.
Corporate Transactions, Succession Planning - working with small business owners in accomplishing various business goals, transition to children, key-employees or third parties of the business, maximizing the benefits of the transition, coordinating the succession with personal estate planning, business contracts, transactions, leases, sales of services or products, employment agreements, buy-sell agreements, deferred compensation agreements, choice of entity, and other corporate transactions.
Probate - we represent clients in the probate of assets, filing of Tennessee, Mississippi and/or Federal inheritance/estate tax returns, seeking waivers for taxes or Tenncare, etc.
Other - we provide some other services or can help someone find appropriate counsel. The services we provide other than listed above are: Representation before the IRS for tax issues, employment/labor litigation through a relationship with another firm, and collections work for business owners.
